• New Angband maintainer
  As you might already have noticed I have been pretty inactive lately and didn't update Thangorodrim as often as I should have. This was due to real life issues and an increasing burnout.

  As a result I decided to step down as Angband maintainer and make room for someone else. And now the time has come. I'll pass the torch to Julian Lighton. Julian shares most of my views on Angband's development and I am sure that he'll do a great job.

  I intend to stay in touch with the *band development and submit patches, compile version, and so on. My free time is rather limited, but I'll try to do my best. I'm not sure yet if I will continue maintaining Thangorodrim. I'm working slowly on a database driven version, but I have no idea if I'll ever get it past the experimental stage.

• Angband 3.0.6
  A new Angband release is now available as souce code, DOS, Windows, and Mac OS X version. Take a look at the list of changes to find out what bugfixes and modifications this release brings.
• Angband 3.0.5 spoiler updates
  Hugo Kornelis updated various spoilers for Angband 3.0.5.
• OAngband 0.7.0 for OS X
  I've ported OAngband 0.7.0 to Mac OS X.

• OAngband ports
  Courtney Campbell compiled Mac versions of OAngband 0.7.0 and Antony Sidwell did the same for RISC OS.

• OAngband 0.7.0
  Bahman Rabii released a new version of OAngband as source code and Windows version. New features include incremental resists, improvements of monster trappers, cleaned up information for specialty/racial/class abilities, new specialties, a more powerful ranger class, and many more tweaks and changes.
• NPPAngband 0.4.1 for RISC OS
  Antony Sidwell has ported NPPAngband 0.4.1 to RISC OS.
• NewAngband 1.7.0
  And there is also a new version of NewAngband available. "Variaz" provides the source code, DOS and Windows version at the NewAngband homepage. Changes include a completely rework of the class/abilities system, as well as a totally new and much more customizable spell system.
• New round of the Angband safefile competition
  The Angband competition has started again with a new round. This time the goal is to win Sangband-0.9.9-beta15c with the provided savefile.
• Randomband 0.4.1 for Windows
  Kenneth Strom's Randomband 0.4.1 is now also available as Windows version.

• Steamband 0.4.0
  Courtney Campbell released version 0.4.0 of Steamband, the pulp/Victorian/Steampunk variant. The source code, Windows, Mac, RISC OS, and DOS versions are available for download. The new version brings NPP style quests, new AI, completely new monster and artifact lists, and many many more changes.
• NPPAngband 0.4.1
  Jeff Greene and Diego Gonzalez joined forces and released NPPAngband 0.4.1. This is mainly a bugfix release, but also adds some new features like new birth options and the possibility to use more than Angband's 16 colors in the ASCII mode. The source code, Windows, DOS, and OS X versions are waiting for downloads.
• New competition round
  A new round of the Angband competition has been started yesterday. This time the goal is to win a game of NPPAngband 0.4.1 in the fewest turns possible (or to get the most experience/turns if no winner emerges). The savefile is available from the competition page and you have till the 30th April 2005 to submit your entries.
• Randomband 0.4.1
  There is a new release of Kenneth Strom's Randomband available as source code.
• OAngband 0.6.2b
  OAngband has been updated by Bahman Rabii. The new 0.6.2b release tweaks the game balance, fixes many minor bugs, and adds many small enhancements to the game. It is available as source code and Windows version.

• T.o.M.E 2.3.1
  Dark God and his team released ToME 2.3.1. The new version fixes several bugs in the skill system. Savefiles from older version are not compatible, so you'll have to start new characters to get rid of the bugs. At the moment T.o.M.E 2.3.1 is available as source code, Windows, and RISC OS version.
• RISC OS ports
  Antony Sidwell compiled more than just ToME 2.3.1 for RISC OS. He also updated Angband 3.0.5, Animeband 0.5.8.2, Gumband 2.2.3, NPPAngband 0.4.0, sCthangband 1.0.18, UnAngband 0.5.5, Zangband 2.7.4c, as well as providing a set of tools to make compiling easier.

• NPPAngband 0.4.0a
  The previous release of NPPAngband contained a major bug where the monsters always cast spells after being hit by a melee attack from the player. That's why Jeff Greene released a bugfix version as source code archive and precompiled Windows version. The MacOS X version was not affected, neither were the newly added 68k and PPC Mac versions.
• T.o.M.E 2.3.0 for MacOS X
  "Gileba" compiled a MacOS X version of ToME 2.3.0 and added a bugfix for the new skills-feature. Please note that this release is not savefile compatible to the 2.3.0 binaries for other systems.

• NPPAngband 0.4.0
  Jeff Greene released a new version of NPPAngband that among many other changes adds themed levels, player ghosts, store services, and a new player class. The source code and precompiled versions for Windows and MacOS X are available.
• T.o.M.E 2.3.0
  And there is another new release. This time by Dark God and his team. ToME 2.3.0 brings a rebalancing of skills as well as various other tweaks, changes, and bugfixes. It is available as source code and Windows version.

• Angband 3.0.5 for old Macs
  "pelpel" compiled Angband 3.0.5 for old Macs. This version should run on virtually any Mac. A Plus with 2M RAM should be enough.
• ZAngband 2.7.4c for Macs
  ZAngband 2.7.4c has been ported to the Mac as well. "Pelpel" compiled versions for PPC and 68k Macs.
• Hellband 1.0.3
  Dean Anderson's variant Hellband has been updated to version 1.0.3. The new release is available as source code, Windows and DOS version and fixes various bugs as well as introducing new permanent light sources (Orbs).

• Updated attack spoilers
  The attack spoilers for Angband 3.0.5 have been updated by Leonard Dickens.
• Compiling Angband with Mingw/Msys
  Tuomas Härkönen wrote a short guide for compiling a Windows version of Angband with MinGW and MSYS.

• New Angband FTP server
  A new home for the Angband FTP archive has been found.  David Haworth, a long time Angband player, has kindly offered to host the new FTP server.

  The FTP server can be found at ftp://ftp.thangorodrim.net/pub/angband/.

  The new server has a higher bandwidth limit than the old clockwork.dementia.org server, but it isn't endless.  Please keep that in mind before doing something stupid like trying to download the whole archive.

  The ftp mirrors at ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/games/Angband/ and ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/angband/ will be informed shortly and will hopefully start mirroring the new site soon.

  There is currently no upload facility.  Any new files will have to be added by me.  If you have a new version or port that should be added to the archive, then please mail it to ftp@thangorodrim.net. I'll then try to upload the files as soon as possible.

  Please try to include a meaningful description of the file, so that I know where to place it.  My mailserver is configured to automatically drop mails with .exe, .bat, .scr, .com, or .pif attachments.  So if your file has such an extension, then please send it inside a .zip, .tar.gz, or .tar.bz2 archive and include a short note in the email text.  In that case I'll extract the contained file before uploading it.

• Multiband 1.1.4
  "Wrabhit's" variant Multiband has been updated to version 1.1.4. Source code and Windows version are available for download. There have been many game balance tweaks as well as the addition of a new race - the Fey. The full list of changes can be found at the Multiband homepage.
• PosBand 0.3.0 alpha2
  The second alpha version of Possessor Angband has been released by Alexander Ulyanov. It is available as source code, Windows, and Mac version. This is mainly a bugfix release, but also adds a new race to play as - the Hydra. Hydras can grow several heads (and the corresponding necks), get extra-fast regeneration, poison, fire and plasma breath, high HPs, and even poison immunity. Take a look at the Posband homepage for the complete changelog.
• Hellband 1.0.2
  A new variant, based on Dante's Inferno, has been created by Dean Anderson. The goal of the game is to battle through the circles of hell and finally fight Lucifer. The source code and a Windows version are available from the Hellband homepage.
• Gilband 0.1.0
  And there is another new variant! GilAngband, "Gileba's" Angband variant, is available as source code and Mac OS X version and can be found at the GilAngband homepage.

• PosBand 0.3.0 alpha1
  Alexander Ulyanov released version 0.3.0 alpha1 of Possessor Angband, a variant of NPPAngband that aims at letting you play as one of the many monster races. The source code and a Windows versions can be downloaded from the Posband homepage.
• Animeband 0.5.8.1
  Version 0.5.8.1 of Anime Angband by Ernest Huang is now available as source code and Windows version.

• JnuxBand - Angband on a bootable Linux floppy
  Jerome Pinot released JnuxBand - a Linux bootdisk containing Angband 3.0.5. This lets you play Angband on almost any PC without having to install it first.

• Angband FTP site offline
  The Angband FTP site at clockwork.dementia.org is currently offline due to excessive bandwidth usage. Some idiot thought that downloading the whole site at once was a good idea. The matter is currently out of the hands of the FTP server admin Brian Gallew and it is unknown if the server will go online again. I'm currently looking for alternative places to host the archive. In the meantime please use the mirror sites that are still available. The European mirror ftp.sunet.se, and the Australian mirror ftp.planetmirror.com remain online.

• Thangorodrim Quickies
  I've had basically no free time over the past few weeks and a lot of stuff is left undone, including updating Thangorodrim and answering my mail. The current lack of time will probably continue for another few weeks, but I'll try to squezze out a few minutes each day to bring things up-to-date and keep them that way. For now just a few quickies about new releases:

• Angband 3.0.5 for Mac OS X [update]
  I've uploaded an update to the Angband 3.0.5 Mac OS X version that adds the previously missing sound support and fixes a crash bug when selecting sound/graphic options before loading or creating a character (reported by Patrick Hughes).

• Angband 3.0.5 for SUN Solaris
  Jason Holtzapple compiled the Angband 3.0.5 release for SPARC and Intel based Solaris machines.

• sCthAngband 1.0.18
  A bugfix release of sCthAngband has been released by Kieron Dunbar. The source code and a Windows version compiled by "iain_mac" are available for download.
• NewAngband 1.6.1
  And there is also a bugfixed version of NewAngband available. "Variaz" provides the source code and a DOS version at the NewAngband homepage.

• Animeband 0.5.6
  Ernest Huang released version 0.5.6 of Anime Angband as source code and Windows version. Take a look at the changelog to find out what is new.
• Tales of Middle Earth 2.2.7
  ToME 2.2.7 aka. "Stoke Me A Clipper" has been released by the team around Dark God. Source code and Windows version are waiting for downloads. This is a bugfix version. For the list of changes please take a look at the ToME homepage.
• sCthAngband 1.0.17
  Kieron Dunbar released the source code for sCthAngband 1.0.17. As usual the changelog knows what modifications have been made.
• Possessor Angband - PosBand 0.2.0-alpha1
  There is a new variant based on NPPAngband that aims at adding a Possessor class as well as allowing you to play as one of various monster races. "uav" has made the source code and a Windows version of Posband available. Make sure to take a look at the PosBand homepage for the details.

• Angband 3.0.5
  A fresh Angband release is now available as souce code, DOS, Windows, and Mac OS X version. Take a look at the list of changes to find out what is new.
• NewAngband 1.6.0
  "Variaz" released a new NewAngband version (not to be confused with the new Angband version). The source code and a DOS version are available from the NewAngband homepage.

• Angband 3.0.4 for SUN Solaris
  Angband 3.0.4 has been compiled for SPARC and Intel based Solaris machines by Jason Holtzapple.
• Mac Multiband
  "pelpel" ported Multiband 1.1.2 for the various Mac flavors.
• Anime Angband 0.5.5
  Ernest Huang released a new version of Anime Angband as source code and Windows version. There is also a Mac port of the slightly older 0.5.4 version, compiled by "pelpel".
• NPPAngband 0.3.4
  NPPAngband 0.3.4, also known as "Winds of Change", has been released by Jeff Greene. Source code, Windows and DOS version are available, as well as an Mac OS X port by Luigi Mattera.

• Multiband 1.1.2

• NPPAngband 0.3.2
  NPPAngband 0.3.2, a bugfix version with the codename "Sleepers Awake", has been released by Jeff Greene. Source code and Windows version are available.
• Multiplayer ToME - TomeNET 4.2.2
  A new client of the multiplayer version of ToME is now available for Windows.

• RISC OS ports
  Antony Sidwell has ported Angband 3.0.4 and ToME 2.2.6 to RISC OS.

• Angband 3.0.4 released
  A new Angband release is now available as souce code, DOS, Windows, and Mac version (compiled by "pelpel"). The list of changes is rather long as this release contains several new features. Go get it while it is still hot.

• ToME 2.2.6
  The team around Dark God has released ToME 2.2.6 aka. "Won't Get Fooled Again". Source code and Windows version are waiting for downloads.
• OAngband for RISC OS
  Antony Sidwell ported the latest OAngband version to RISC OS machines.
• Xband 0.4.0
  And Chris Watkins' variant Xband gets an update as well. The source code and a Windows version are available.

• Windows ports
  There are now Windows ports of Gumband 2.2.3 and of sCthAngband 1.0.16 (compiled by "iain_mac").
• OAngband for Macs
  "Pelpel" has ported OAngband 0.6.1 for OS X and PPC/68k Macs.

• NPPAngband 0.3.0
  NPPAngband 0.3.0 titled "Let The Big Wheel Roll" by it's author Jeff Greene. The new version consists of one big change - adding Leon Marrick's and Bahman Rabii's 4th Generation AI. It is available as source code and Windows version.
• OAngband 0.6.1
  Bahman Rabii released the source code and Windows version of OAngband 0.6.1. Take a look at the changelog to find out what is new.
• sCthAngband 1.0.16
  Kieron Dunbar, the sCthAngband maintainer, released a bugfix for his variant. New Mac versions have already been provided by Ken Dubuc.

• Gumband 2.2.3
  R. Dan Henry, the current Gumband maintainer, released a new version with new and tweaked monsters and artifacts, modifications to the half-giants race, as well as other changes. It's currently available as source code and DOS version.
• sCthAngband 1.0.15
  sCthAngband is the next variant with a fresh version. Kieron Dunbar released the source code, "iain_mac" compiled it for Windows, and Ken Dubuc provided ports of PPC and OS X Macs.
• Xband 0.3.1
  Xband 0.3.1 by Chris Watkins has also been updated. Source code and a Windows version are available for download.
• Hengband 1.6.0 and 1.4.5
  Not just one, but two new stable versions of Hengband have been released by "Mr.Hoge" and the Hengband devteam. While the 1.6.0 branch is the first version of a new stable branch, the 1.4.5 version is is the last version of old stable branch. Source code, Windows, and Mac versions are ready as well as a readme file that lists the changes since the last releases.

• Multiband 1.1.1
  "Wrabhit" released version 1.1.1 of his variant Multiband. The Sorceror class is new in this release and can memorize up to 20 different spells from scrolls. There are some other bugfixes and changes to make it interesting for other player classes as well. Source code and Windows version are available, together with ports for PPC and OS X Macs compiled by "pelpel".
• ZAngband 2.7.4b
  The ZAngband devteam around Steven Fuerst released a bugfix for ZAngband 2.7.4, labeled 2.7.4b. Source code as well as compiled versions for Windows, DOS, and Macs are available.
• ToME 2.2.5 aka. "They've Got A Secret"
  ToME 2.2.5 aka. "They've Got A Secret" has been released by the team around Dark God. Source code and Windows version are waiting for downloads and the Mac users don't have to wait either since Ken Dubuc already compiled a version for PPC and OS X Macs.
• NewAngband 1.5.0
  There has also been an update to the NewAngband variant by "Variaz". He provided the source code, a DOS version and a detailled changelog.
• New savefile competition
  A new Angband competition has been organized by Tony Holmes. The current character is a Half-Troll Mage in Angband 3.0.3 and the goal is to win in the fewest turns. If nobody submits a winner till 17th January 2004, then the entry with the most experience per turn wins this round.
